Ways I work
Every piece of work starts the same way: a free 15-minute chat, then a first session where we get to know each other. From there, the shape of the counselling depends on you. Sessions take place in a calm, private room at 99 Giles Street in Leith, a short walk from The Shore and easy to reach from anywhere in Edinburgh, or online if that suits you better. These pages describe the main ways I work.
Talking Therapy
One-to-one counselling for whatever you are carrying: anxiety, low mood, stress, loss, life transitions, burnout, concerns about your own drinking, or simply the sense that something needs to change.
I am a pluralistic counsellor, which simply means I draw on several approaches and shape them around you, rather than asking you to fit a method.
Sessions are held in Leith or online, and most people begin here before we shape anything more specific.
Relationships Counselling
One-to-one support focused on the relationships in your life: partners, family, friendships, colleagues.
You come on your own, and together we look at the patterns you keep finding yourself in, what you want to say but cannot, and how to be heard without the argument. Many people travel from across Edinburgh for this work, and it is equally at home online.
Couples Counselling
Sessions for two, in person in Leith, helping you hear each other again.
Couples counselling gives you both a calm, neutral room and an unhurried hour to slow the conversation down. Whether you are in Leith itself or coming from elsewhere in Edinburgh, the room at 99 Giles Street is private, quiet and easy to reach. Couples work is in person only.
CBT in Counselling
Practical CBT-informed tools woven into counselling, within my wider pluralistic approach.
If you want something structured to take away between sessions, like ways of noticing thought patterns, steadying anxiety, or breaking unhelpful loops, we can build that in without losing the warmth of the wider work. Available in person in Leith, Edinburgh, or online.
Online Counselling
Individual counselling by video call, anywhere in the UK.
Online sessions carry the same care and confidentiality as the room in Leith, and suit people juggling work, caring or travel, whether you are elsewhere in Edinburgh, across Scotland, or further afield. All you need is a private space and a stable connection.
